Allostatic Load and Racial and Rural Disparities in Breast Cancer Survival
Does allostatic load help explain racial and rural disparities in breast cancer survival?
A study of 3,069 breast cancer patients found that high allostatic load (AL), a measure of chronic stress, was independently associated with an increased mortality risk. Black patients and rural residents had higher mean AL scores. However, the study found that AL did not statistically explain the racial and rural disparities in breast cancer survival, highlighting the need for interventions addressing chronic stress.
