Get instant access to SA’s latest STGs & EMLs—web, app & more! Stay updated, save time, and boost patient care now!

Accessing the Latest STGs and EML Has Never Been Easier

Healthcare professionals across South Africa can now conveniently access the most up-to-date Standard Treatment Guidelines (STGs) and Essential Medicines List (EML) through a range of digital platforms supported by the National Department of Health (NDoH).

NHI Website
Visit the NHI portal to find the latest STGs and EML tailored to each Level of Care, along with technical resources. Use Annexure A for a step-by-step navigation guide.

Knowledge Hub eLibrary
The Knowledge Hub eLibrary provides access to review documents from the 2020–2024 STGs/EML review cycle. Historic documents are still being migrated, but the Essential Drugs Programme (EDP) can assist—email SAEDP@health.gov.za with your request.

Mobile Access via EMGuidance
Get the EMGuidance app for quick mobile access to STGs and EMLs. Sign up here: http://onelink.to/sy896k. Please note there may be a delay before the updated documents published on the NHI webpage are uploaded onto the EMGuidance platform. During that process, a temporary link to the latest PDF version of each chapter will be inserted into the affected chapters on the EMGuidance platform. Once the upload is complete, the temporary link will be replaced with the new material and a footer indicating the version number.

Webinars Recordings
For webinar recordings aimed at strengthening implementation of the STGs and EML visit: https://knowledgehub.health.gov.za/webinars

EML Spreadsheet
Updated version now available – Version 1.1. NEW: Antibiotic AWaRe categorisation and tab, as well as corrections to the old version 1.0.

With these digital tools, the NDoH ensures reliable, timely, and user-friendly access to essential clinical guidance, supporting safe, effective, and standardised care delivery across the country.
