New trial to test device treating threatened miscarriage

NIHR backs world-first device for threatened miscarriage with £1M funding—potential to save NHS £236M and help 150K women yearly.

NIHR awards £1 million in funding to first of its kind technology that’s being trialled to address threatened miscarriage. Created by the team at Calla Lily Clinical Care, the ‘Callavid’ device delivers vital doses of progesterone to women with threatened miscarriage. If approved, Callavid would become the world’s first drug-device combination product to treat threatened miscarriage. The new technology could help over 150,000 women in the UK who experience threatened miscarriage each year. The device could help save the NHS £236 million per year in avoidable costs from the use of leaky progesterone pessaries.
