Prevalence and severity of coronary artery disease in asymptomatic military air crew
A study on asymptomatic military aircrew aged ≥40 found cardiac CT (CCT) valuable for detecting coronary artery disease (CAD). 12% had clinically relevant CAD, and high-risk plaque features were seen in 21%. CCT, including CACS and CCTA, offers more comprehensive information than exercise ECG for this high-hazard occupation.
Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a main cause of incapacitating adverse cardiac events in aviation. Military aircrews≥40 years in the Netherlands undergo a 5-year exercise ECG (X-ECG), which lacks precision to identify relevant CAD. The study aim was to identify the screening value of cardiac CT (CCT) in asymptomatic military aircrew.
