WHO Highlights the Importance of Addressing Childhood Hearing Loss

Under the theme "From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children", WHO is urging governments, civil society, and partners across the health and education sectors to take urgent action to protect children’s hearing.

On World Hearing Day, the World Health Organisation (WHO) is calling for urgent global action to address childhood hearing loss, which currently affects over 95 million children and adolescents.

With nearly 60% of ear and hearing problems being preventable or treatable through local care, the WHO is introducing new technical resources and a mobile screening app to help schools and communities identify issues early. By integrating these tools into primary healthcare, the initiative aims to improve educational outcomes and social wellbeing for children worldwide.
