Respiratory distress syndrome
-Hyaline membrane disease in premature newborns

• Endotracheal (sus): 135mg/kg immediately; Repeat if needed; Max: 3 doses/5 days

Warm vial to room temperature before use by holding vial in hand or by placing in water at 37 degrees celsius

Administer total dose as three aliquots: 1st with infant in supine position, 2nd/3rd with infant on left and then right side

Instillation of each aliquot should be followed by 30 seconds of manual ventilation

Allow 1-2 minutes of recovery between each aliquot

In unstable infants, especially with persistent pulmonary hypertension, total dose can be divided into 6 aliquots

Liposurf is a natural surfactant sourced from bovine lungs containing mainly phospholipids and proteins. It acts by lining the internal surface of the lungs and decreasing the alveolar surface tension. This supports respiratory function by preventing collapse at end-expiration so that adequate gas exchange is maintained throughout the ventilatory cycle.
