Prophylaxis of Staphylococcal infections
- Nasal carriage

Chlorhexidine/ Neomycin
1mg/3250 IU (per g)

• Topical (cre): Apply small quantity to the inside of each nostril, then squeeze nares together, 12hrly

Eradication of Staphylococcal infections

• Topical (cre): Apply small quantity to the inside of each nostril, then squeeze nares together, 6hrly; Treatment duration: 10 days

Use an amount about the size of a matchstick head

Apply using little finger OR a swab

Chlorhexidine
Chlorhexidine is an antimicrobial whose affect is attributed to the attraction between chlorhexidine, a cation, and negatively charged bacterial cells. After chlorhexidine is absorbed into the organism's cell wall, it disrupts the integrity of the cell membrane and causes the leakage of intracellular components of the organisms.

Neomycin
Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic which acts by binding to a specific protein on the 30S ribosomal subunit of the microbe. This results in faulty alignment or recognition with respect to mRNA and probably tRNA during initiation of microbial peptide chain formation. This results in the production of non-functional peptide chains.
