Collagenase is an enzyme produced by Clostridium histolyticum. Its action is highly specific to denatured collagen in necrotic tissue, which makes it effective for the removal of detritus, formation of granulation tissue, and subsequent epithelisation of dermal ulcers and severely burned areas.
