• Renal impairment
• Unconscious patients
• Absent gag reflex
• Ingestion of a petroleum distillate
• Ingestion of strong acids or bases
• Ingestion with strychnine

• Hepatic impairment 
• Elderly 
• Children
• Dehydration 
• Shock 
• Risk factors for seizures
• Cardiovascular disease
• Ingestion of corrosives
