• Magnesium crosses the placenta. The safety of magnesium chloride during pregnancy is unknown as there is no data from animal reproduction studies. Use should be based on benefit/risk assessment

Magnesium chloride is an important cofactor in at least 300 enzymatic reactions involving protein synthesis and carbohydrate metabolism. It is a supplement for the treatment of hypomagnesaemia and magnesium deficiencies.
