Prescribing points

Mesterolone is not aromatised to oestrogen, therefore does not cause gynecomastia. However, because it is an oral drug its bioavailability is very variable and unpredictable

Mechanism of action

Mesterolone balances a deficiency of androgen formation which begins to fall gradually with increasing age. Therefore, it is suitable for treatment of all conditions caused by deficient endogenous androgen formation. In the recommended therapeutic dosage it will not impair spermatogenesis.
