Mechanism of action
Panthenol is a racemic mixture of the dextrorotatory and laevorotatory isomers of panthenol. Dexpanthenol is the alcoholic analog of the B-complex vitamin d-pantothenic acid and is a precursor of coenzyme A, which is necessary for acetylation reactions and the synthesis of acetylcholine. Panthenol is postulated to enhance the effect of acetylcholine.
