PUNCTUALITY

Meetings are scheduled to start at exactly the times they set as above. It is imperative that staff are seated/or present prior to the start time as this will enable the activity to begin at this set time.

It is part of one’s professional behaviour, attitude and practice to be punctual at all meetings or engagements. Being on time for a meeting or an engagement with others displays respect one has for these others.

Apart from the disruption one causes when one arrives late at a meeting there is a sense of disrespect one shows when one makes this a habit.

Punctuality will be monitored and will be used as a performance assessment criterion that will be reflected on one’s assessment.

It is a particular ‘bug bear’ of the current Head of Department that staff at whatever level arrive at meetings late and do not appear to consider this as a fault.

IF YOU ARE LATE for an academic meeting at the very least THINK!

  • If < 5 mins from start time – go ahead
  • If > 5 mins < 10 mins - – go ahead and join BUT apologise to someone (usually the speaker at the end of the meeting)
  • If > 15 mins RECONSIDER whether you really need to attend vs the disruption you will cause
  • If > 20 mins UNLESS absolutely necessary rather NOT JOIN
  • If > 30 mins PLEASE DO NOT BOTHER (Unless one has a contribution and prior arrangements made)
