Accessing the Latest Documents

To get started, you'll need to find the most current versions of the National Health Insurance (NHI) Standard Treatment Guidelines (STGs) and the Essential Medicines List (EML) found on Knowledge Hub elibrary. The best place to find these is on the official NHI webpage. This is the primary source for the latest documents. If you're looking for older or "historic" technical documents from the 2020-2024 review period, you should know that they've been moved to this same NHI webpage. If you can't find what you need, you can always reach out to the Essential Drugs Programme (EDP) by emailing them at SAEDP@health.gov.za for assistance.

Using Mobile and Digital Tools

For easy access on the go, consider using the EMGuidance mobile application. To sign up, simply click here. Keep in mind that there might be a short delay between when new documents are published on the NHI webpage and when they are uploaded to the app. During this time, the app will provide a temporary link to the latest PDF version within the affected chapters. Once the upload is complete, the new material will replace the temporary link and be marked with a new version number. Additionally, an updated EML spreadsheet, Version 1.1, is now available, which includes a new "Antibiotic AWaRe" tab and corrections from the previous version.

Finding Additional Resources

If you want to deepen your understanding of the STGs and EML, you can access a variety of useful resources. For example, you can find a collection of webinar recordings that aim to strengthen the implementation of these guidelines by visiting the Knowledge Hub eLibrary. These webinars can provide valuable insights and practical guidance to help you apply the information effectively.
