The registry does not make provision for the reporting of the different types of leukaemia – it also does not differentiate between acute and chronic leukaemia. Approximately 15 to 20% of new adult leukaemia diagnoses are CML and although the incidence of cases refractory/intolerant to imatinib will be low, due to long term survival of patients on therapy prevalence will be higher and may increase over time. Current utilization of nilotinib/dasatinib suggest approximately 280 patients nationwide on second line therapy.
