Access to the Standard Treatment Guidelines (STGs) and Essential Medicines List (EML) has never been more convenient, thanks to several digital platforms supported by the National Department of Health (NDoH). The most up-to-date versions of the STGs and EML can be found on the NHI website. This portal houses documents tailored to each Level of Care, along with related technical resources. For help navigating the website, users can refer to Annexure A for a detailed guide.
In addition to the NHI portal, the Knowledge Hub eLibrary remains a go-to source for STGs, EMLs, and documents from the 2020–2024 review period. While most of these materials have migrated to the NHI website, older historic documents are still in the process of being transferred. If you need access to any of these legacy resources, the Essential Drugs Programme (EDP) is available to assist—simply send a request to SAEDP@health.gov.za. You can also explore webinar recordings related to the implementation of the STGs and EML via the Knowledge Hub’s webinar page.
For mobile access, healthcare professionals can download the EMGuidance app to sign up. While this platform is incredibly helpful for quick access on the go, please note that there may be a short delay in syncing updates from the NHI website to the app. Additionally, COVID-19 rapid review reports are available on the NDoH website. With these various tools, the NDoH ensures that health professionals are equipped with reliable, timely, and easily accessible information to support quality care delivery nationwide.
