General Fracture Management: Introduction
General Fracture Management
Principles of closed reduction
- Displaced fractures, including those prepared to for internal fixation should be reduced to minimise soft tissue swelling.
- Splints (Back slabs) should protect soft tissue example adequate padding.
- Adequate analgesia and muscle relaxation (sedation) are key to a good reduction.
- Basic principle of reduction is axial traction and reversal of mechanism of injury.
- Correct length, angulation and rotation.
- Particular regions of injuries have described reduction manoeuvres.
- Immobilise the joint below and above the injury.
