Tea-break 10:30 to 11:00hrs Room 12 Area 16A opposite PICU
It is the department’s firm view that the tea-break is a necessary respite from the usually stressful events of the wards. It is a time when consultants, registrars, MOs and students alike can relate to each other on a more personal level. This team building and spirit lifting event must be encouraged by the seniors but also followed by the juniors who often feel the temptation to ‘first get everything under control’ and thereby miss out.
Everybody wishing to make use of the available tea, coffee, milk etc. is requested to pay a stipend per month to a designated person, who buys these provisions.
Remember your turfs and consults can be done at this time!
Name Tags and Stamps
The wearing of name tags is compulsory. Karen Marshall will assist you with obtaining these tags as well as name stamps that one requires for prescriptions (this only applies to full-time non rotating staff). Until such time as you obtain a name stamp please print your name, qualifications, MP/IN number and contact details.
Meeting with the Sisters
This is a combined doctors-nurses meeting held on the last Thursday of every month. The primary purpose of such a meeting is to ensure that there is a healthy working relationship between all the healthcare personnel in our wards. Many a minor problem that has the potential to spark conflict and division that would result in the lowering of professional standards of care can be addressed and nipped in the bud provided there is good communication between all the staff. It must be noted here that these meetings address not only problems with relationships but more importantly the day-to-day issues of running a ward that can be improved. This meeting is also an opportunity to compliment and credit individuals for outstanding efficiency and service. We hope that through these meetings we get to know the people we work so closely with and forge great friendships.
The consultant who is responsible for this portfolio is Dr Khakhu Mathivha.
