DESCRIPTION

• Patients present with a sudden onset of paraparesis, with associated sensory loss, i.e. a sensory level may be found.
• Incontinence and autonomic instability may be present.

GENERAL MEASURES

• Do cervical and thoracic spine films, with chest X-ray to exclude obstructive lesions before performing a lumbar puncture.

REFERRAL

• All patients for urgent imaging.
