Mechanism of action

Flupenthixol is a thioxanthene antipsychotic. It is an antagonist of D1 and D2 dopamine receptors and an alpha-adrenergic receptor antagonist. Its antipsychotic activity is thought to be related to its blockade of postsynaptic dopamine receptors in the central nervous system.
