Mechanism of action

Clomipramine has actions at several sites including alpha1 adrenolytic, anticholinergic, antihistaminic and antiserotonergic activities. The therapeutic activity of clomipramine is believed to be based on its ability to inhibit neuronal reuptake of serotonin, primarily, and also noradrenaline.
